2020 CANDACE Awards Call for Nominations
Award Description, Eligibility & Criteria
The Candace Awards honor 5 distinguished Black women with a demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of Black women and girls. NCBW-QCMC will recognize leaders who have made significant contributions to its mission to advocate on behalf of Black women and girls to promote leadership development and gender equity in the areas of health, education, economic empowerment, and public policy. The recipients will be honored at the 5th Annual My Sister’s Keeper Luncheon on Saturday, June 27, 2020.
NCBW-QCMC will recognize a woman who embodies NCBW-QCMC's Core Values:
Gender equity
Inclusion
Respect
Racial & social justice
Integrity & accountability
Economic empowerment
Collaboration
Eligibility Guidelines:
Nominees must have an exemplary record of advocacy, leadership, or service that is making a lasting impact
Nominee identifies as a Black woman.
Nominee has not already received the award.
Nominee is not a NCBW-QCMC member.
Nominee is not an immediate family member of the nominator. Nominee is not seeking elected office this year.
Nominee is available to attend the NCBW-QCMC 5th Annual My Sister’s Keeper Luncheon. Nominee consents to the nomination and the publication of her name, photo, and biographical information.
Nominee's geographical area of impact includes Charlotte/Mecklenburg.
Criteria:
Commitment to advocacy and improving the lives of Black women and girls and embodies NCBW-QCMC core values.
Demonstrated history of contribution to equity for Black women and girls in the areas of health, education, economic empowerment and public policy and/or civic engagement.
Established leadership skills. Role model or mentor to other Black women and girls.
Development of Black women and girls’ leadership potential and/or creation of leadership opportunities for Black women.
Number of people served.
Identify if contributions have impact at a state or national level.
Length of service and degree to which their services/actions have made a lasting or meaningful contribution or impact on Black women and girls.
Timeline:
Nominations will be collected via an electronic form on the NCBW-QCMC website. The nomination application must be completed in entirety; incomplete forms will not be considered. The deadline for submitting nominations is March 16, 2020. The finalists will be notified by April 1, 2020.
