Our vision is to empower women of color by offering them the tools necessary to succeed. The resources listed below are tools available to QCMC and to community members interested in learning more about the Coalition's advocacy priorities in the areas of health, education, economic empowerment, public policy and civic engagement.
*Provides an overview of the status of minority women's health. Of all minority groups, African-Americans have the most, and many times the largest, differences in health risks when compared to other minority groups. African-Americans have more disease, disability, and early death as well. The illnesses and diseases featured here are among the top health concerns facing African-American women.
The mission of the Imperative is to advance health equity and social justice for Black women across the lifespan through policy and advocacy, education, research and leadership development. The vision of the Imperative is that all Black women will enjoy optimal health in a society that promotes health equity and social justice. The Black Women's Health Imperative is the only organization devoted solely to advancing the health and wellness of America's 20 million Black women and girls through, advocacy and public policy, health education, research and leadership development..
*UNCF is the nation's largest and most effective minority education organization. Since its founding in 1944, UNCF has raised more than $3.6 billion to help more than 400,000 students receive college degrees at UNCF-member institutions and with UNCF scholarships. UNCF plays a critical role in enabling more than 60,000 students each year to attend college and get the education they need and that the nation needs them to have. (NOTE: UNCF supports private HBCUs only.)
*TMCF is the only national organization founded for the sole purpose of providing scholarships to students attending the nation's public Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). In addition to scholarships, TMCF provides leadership development and training as well as programmatic and capacity building support to its member-schools.
*The mission of the National Council on Educating Black Children is to reinstate academic rigor and relevant teaching, improve the assessment of such instruction, and prepare the African-American learner for effective participation in a competitive global society. We envision a time when our society values all children and presents them with equal opportunities that emanate from a useful education and strong family values.
*Our vision is to connect and advocate for Black women globally through acts of kindness and public policy. Our mission is to work in the US and internationally to convene hearings and discussions to evaluate the impact of current public policies and to initiate new policies that address the major threats to the well-being of Black women and our families.
*Since its establishment in 1971, Members of the Congressional Black Caucus have joined together to empower America’s neglected citizens and to address their legislative concerns.For more than 40 years, the CBC has consistently been the voice for people of color and vulnerable communities in Congress and has been committed to utilizing the full Constitutional power, statutory authority, and financial resources of the Government of the United States of America to ensure that everyone in the United States has an opportunity to achieve their version of the American Dream.
*Founded in 1996 to promote women’s rights in the context of struggles for racial justice, the African American Policy Forum works to advance racial justice, gender equality and human rights, both in the United States and internationally. AAPF is an innovative think tank that connects academics, activists and policy-makers in dismantling structural inequality and engages new ideas and perspectives to transform public discourse and policy. The work of AAPF promotes frameworks and strategies that address the bases of discrimination as they relate to the intersections of race, gender and class.
