CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
Our Civic Engagement Committee educates and creates programing around citizen education on local, state and federal government issues and processes as well as engaging community partners for nonpartisan social action.
The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. has defined the following advocacy priorities related to civic engagement:
Additionally, the Queen City Metropolitan Chapter's Civic Engagement committee will assist the chapter in advocating for policies that promote access and equity in the areas of Health, Education and Economic Empowerment. QCMC is a member of NC Women Matter, a non-partisan coalition committed to building the capacity for all women and women’s organizations to have their voices heard in upcoming elections.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION INITIATIVE: READING CIRCLE
BLACK WOMEN'S RESPONSE TO THE WAR ON WOMEN
As part of its Community Education Initiative, the Civic Engagement Committee of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. – Queen City Metropolitan Chapter is hosting Saturday Reading Circles. The purpose of this program is to promote learning and discussion of topics central to the advancement of Black women and girls. The reading circles will examine issues that face Black women and girls and explore Black women’s historical and contemporary political participation. This month’s readings are from recent reports which examine the conditions of Black women in the United States. The discussion will focus on the economic status of Black women, as determined by multiple indicators highlighted in the reports. QCMC partners with NC Women Matters to prepare and mail 2500 letters to North Carolina women voters, encouraging them to get out and vote in the November elections. Every vote counts! |

(950 North Carolina Music Factory Blvd., Charlotte NC 28202) to meet candidates for Governor, Senate, NC House of Representatives, Judges and County commissioners in the Charlotte/Metropolitan area.

JOIN QCMC at WOMEN'S ADVOCACY DAY!

Sponsored by NC Women United, the event will include a training to learn the basics of advocacy and about local and state issues that affect women. You can meet with legislators and discuss the issues you care about most and get to know women's groups from across the state and learn how to get involved. Women's Advocacy Day will also include a special keynote presentation by Writer, award winning filmmaker and cultural producer Dream Hampton.

QCMC's Public Policy Committee encourages all women to attend the upcoming Charlotte - Mecklenburg Women's Agenda Assembly on Saturday, October 11th at 9:00am (doors open at 8:30am.) The purpose of this gathering is to help women learn to express their views on public policy issues, to prioritize issues that impact women and families, and to ensure the voice of women is heard through advocacy in the General Assembly.
